Thai PM Invited to Visit Singapore

Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong has invited his Thai counterpart Thaksin Shinawatra to visit the city state at a time convenient to both sides, the Thai News Agency (TNA) said Thursday.

The Singapore leader sent a message to Thaksin on Wednesday, congratulating him for being elected as the new Thai prime minister.

In the message, Goh said that he hoped to have opportunities to work and cooperate with the Thai leader in promoting and fostering goodwill and relations between the two neighboring countries, and invited his Thai counterpart to visit Singapore at a time convenient for both sides.

The Singapore leader praised the newly-elected Thai premier as a well-experienced leader in both the public and private sectors, saying that his clear mandate, given by the Thai people, would strengthen his administrative power amid challenges the country is facing, said the report.

Goh also praised Thaksin's role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbors when he was foreign minister in a previous government, it added.
