Inter-school Internet Project Launched in GuangxiAn inter-school Internet project as is lately reported from Guangxi, it is to be built to link up and log over 90% of Guangxi's primary and middle schools on to the Internet or China's Educational Satellite Broadband Network (CESBN) for a share of inter-school education resources in the region. It is told that the project will take five to ten years to be built as follows:1. From 2001 to 2003: To log primary/middle schools in cities and middle schools in county towns on to the Internet and CESBN and share education resources by 50% middle schools county town below and key township primary schools through CESBN with long-distance education receiving stations built. Meanwhile, some high schools in cities and county towns with conditions available will be run in a way with campus networks built. 2. Till 2005: Internet and CESBN to link up primary schools in county towns and middle schools below and key township primary schools to run long-distance educational receiving stations. Fifty percent of primary/middle schools in cities and middle schools at a county level will have campus networks built along with teaching resource bases centering on ordinary demonstration high schools launched. 3. By 2010, Internet and CESBN to connect over 90% primary/middle schools and to have a databank as storage of education resources built on a regional scale in Guangxi. It is reported that there are about 30,000 computers and over 400 network classrooms, mostly multimedia networks, available in Guangxi's primary and middle schools. Currently, 465 demonstration schools have been chosen to undertake inter-school Internet project construction on a regional scale in Guangxi. By PD Online Staff Huang Ying
