Education Key to HK's Future Success: Official

Education & Career Expo 2001 Show Held in HK
A well-trained and competitive workforce is significant to Hong Kong's future success in this age of knowledge-based global economy, said Frederick Lam, acting executive director of the Trade Development Council (TDC) of Hong Kong.

At the Education & Career Expo 2001 that opened Thursday, Lam said both students and the working public need to equip themselves for new opportunities and challenges.

The Education & Career Expo, he said, is a non-stop information center providing timely intelligence conducive to the growth and development of the local audience.

Jointly organized by the TDC and the Labor Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Expo presents the latest information on further studies, training and job prospects of different professions offered by 303 exhibitors.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Pamela Tan, commissioner for labor, said that in the past 10 years, the Expo has helped close to two million students, job seekers and the general public to gain a better understanding of the numerous educational and careers development opportunities around them.

The four-day exhibition is divided into education and career sections. In the education section, a wide selection of learning opportunities is offered by 241 institutions from Hong Kong and aboard.

Highlights include the joint display of eight local tertiary institutions at the Hong Kong Higher Education Pavilion, and the IT in Education section where exhibitors provide options on e- commerce training, online education services and education websites.
