S.Korean President to Visit US in Early MarchSouth Korean President Kim Dae- jung will visit the United States to meet his US counterpart George W. Bush in Washington on March 7."The two leaders will further deepen their traditional friendly relations between Seoul and Washington, coordinate the promotion of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia and discuss other issues of mutual concern," said Presidential spokesman Park Joon-young Thursday, February 15. During his visit, Kim will meet US Congressional and major administrative leaders to discuss major topics of mutual interest between the two countries, said the spokesman. The duration of President Kim's stay in the US has not been fixed yet but could last four to five days, according to the spokesman. Kim Ha-joong, presidential senior secretary for foreign affairs and security, said President Kim will be the fifth head of state President Bush is to meet after his January 20 inauguration, signifying the importance the US attaches to its relationship with South Korea, said Kim Ha-joong. The two presidents will discuss not only the South Korean-US stance on Pyongyang but also a South Korea-US-Japan position and trade affairs as well, said the official. The scheduled Kim-Bush meeting is expected to bring a new change to the Korean peninsula, observers said. Kim had visited Washington twice to meet the then US President Bill Clinton in June 1998, and in July 1999.
