MOE and Jiangsu Government to Rebuild Southeast University
The Southeast University will be built into a world top university and an important base for training high-level talents, conducting researches on high technology and providing consultancy for decision makers in China, especially in East China.
This is released in an agreement signed by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Jiangsu provincial government on February 12.
According to the agreement, the Southeast University will be kept under the direct guidance of the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, the Jiangsu province will support the Southeast University and list its reform and development in the government's general plan for economic construction and social development.
As stipulated in the agreement, the MOE and the Jiangsu provincial government will respectively input 300 million yuan in the Southeast University from 2001 to 2003.
Currently, the Southeast University, one of the top ten universities in the capacity of scientific research in China, has become a general university giving courses in sciences, engineering, medicine and liberal arts. It has several campuses, accommodating graduates, undergraduates, providing adult education and telnet education through the Internet.
It is reported that the MOE and the government of Jiangsu Province have initiated cooperation in the rebuilding of Nanjing University since 1999.
