China Constructs Fish Shelters Near Zhuhai
The government of Zhuhai City, one of China's five special economic zones, recently decided to build fish shelters at the Wanshan Islands sea area at the Mouth of the Pearl River.
The fish shelters will help improve the living conditions there for marine life and thus increase fish yields, an official source said.
Local experts say that one sq. m. of fish shelters will help increase fish crop by 10 kg annually.
According to the official source, due to water pollution and over-fishing, many fishing grounds at the Wanshan Islands sea area, one of the six major fishing grounds in south China's Guangdong province, have declined and the fishery resource has dropped to only one eighth of that ten years ago.
