Everbright Bank to Expand Business in 2001

The Everbright Bank of China Wednesday announced to expand its businesses this year to slice a bigger share of the market.

A spokesman of the bank said by 2000, the bank had had a total assets of over 200 billion yuan, up 30 percent from the previous year. The outstanding amount of bank deposits hit 148 billion yuan, up 33 percent year-on-year.

In 2000, the bank registered a total profits of 1.23 billion yuan, and ranked 300 among the world's top 1000 banks, the spokesman said.

Last August, the bank started a second round of fund raising activity through the stock market, aiming to raise 3.5 billion yuan.

The bank will make efforts to improve its management system and anti-risk measures this year, with more attention given to developing interbank and individual businesses, such as banking card, telephone banks and on-line banking.

The Everbright Bank, established in 1992, is a shareholding commercial bank with its major shareholders being state-owned companies.
