Philippine Justice Minister Wants to be Prosecutor in Estrada CaseThe Philippines new Justice Secretary, Hernando Perez, has said that Joseph Estrada will be arrested and jailed if the country's Ombudsman's office decides to sanction criminal proceedings against the deposed president, Radio Australia report says Feb.14.The Ombudsman's office has indicated that the first criminal case against Estrada could be filed in two weeks time and if no more preliminary hearings are necessary, Mr Estrada could be arrested. To date, Mr Estrada has showed no sign of cooperating with the criminal investigation. He failed to meet a deadline for the lodgement of a counter affidavit explaining why he should not be charged. Mr Estrada claims that he is still the duly elected president of the Philippines. |
