Former Vice-Chairwomen of Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) Laura Cha Shih May- lung was appointed vice-chairwoman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC)..

Cha pledged Tuesday to help reform and develop the mainland's securities market by taking up a corresponding position with the mainland's top market regulator.

The appointment is viewed as part of the government's efforts to strengthen supervision and regulation of the mainland's stock market, which is plagued by "irregularities", such as poor information disclosure and market manipulations, according to the paper.

Cha said that China "is poised to embark on further reform and development of the stock market," and she believed that "with collective work and determination of the government, such reform will be pushed forward."
