CPC Holds Central Working Conference
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a central working conference in Beijing on February 12-14.

The meeting analyzed the current international and domestic situations, and discussed and made arrangements for major tasks the whole Party has to fulfill at the start of the new century.

Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the conference and delivered an important speech.

Present at the meeting were the other members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing and Li Lanqing. They also spoke at the conference.


CPC Holds Central Working Conference
The conference is a very important one for the Party to face up to new challenges and score new victories after entering into the new century.

It will be of great importance for urging all members of the Party to face the new situation and tasks in the new century, further emancipate their minds to strive for progress, make substantial efforts to fulfill all the tasks, and create a new situation in the cause of the Party and the nation.

The conference called on the whole Party to rally more closely round the CPC Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core, persevering in taking Deng Xiaoping Theory and the Party's basic line as the guidance, follow the requirements of the "Three Representatives," get a clear understanding of the situation, take the overall situation into account, unite as one to make joint efforts, do jobs in a down-to-earth manner, and work hard to accelerate the reform, opening-up and socialist modernization drive, and reach the magnificent goal set in the 10th Five-Year Plan for Social and Economic Development (2001-2005).

Also present at the conference were members and alternate members of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, including Ding Guan'gen, Tian Jiyun, Li Changchun, Li Tieying, Wu Bangguo, Wu Guanzheng, Zhang Wannian, Luo Gan, Jiang Chunyun, Jia Qinglin, Qian Qichen, Huang Ju, Wen Jiabao, and Zeng Qinghong.

Other participants included leading officials of the provincial-level CPC committees, leading officers of the major army departments and units, and leading officials of the CPC Central Committee departments, ministries and commissions under the State Council, and institutions concerned.
