"Piano Prince" Plays Chopin in Taiwan
Chinese pianist Li Yundi, the "Piano Prince", arrived in Taiwan February 13 to give his first formal performance after earning his overnight fame as Gold Medal Winner of Chopin International Piano Competition, held in Warsaw October 2000.
Accompanied by his mother and tutors, Li began his eight-day performance visit, according to MinSheng Pao, a Taiwan daily. Cooperating with Budapest Symphony Orchestra, Li will play Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1, at the Taipei Concert Hall and the Taichung County Cultural Center on February 15 and 17 respectively.
Li told the media he had planned to receive his college education at Hannover Conservatory of Germany this November. He specially chose the birthplace of piano to have a personal experience of music, cultivate and acquire better cultural and artistic knowledge and improve his performing skills in an effort to become a first-class pianist.
