Over 100 Million Yuan Donation to Inner Mongolia

So far, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China has appropriated money and materials worth 100 million yuan (some US$12 million) to the blizzard-stricken areas.

Among the donations, over 45 million yuan came from the central government, and 14 million yuan was collected by the regional government. Hong Kong compatriots, other provinces and cities, and large companies also showed great concern for the people in the blizzard-hit areas.

The local government has delivered 133 million kilograms of forage and 79 million kilograms of fodder to save the affected livestock. The government of Xilin Gol League, one of the hardest-hit areas, has provided the victims with five million kilograms of grains.

The latest statistics available show that heavy snow in the autonomous region has so far affected 2.3 million local people, caused the deaths of 285,000 cattle in 31 banners and counties, and has ruined 24 million hectares of grassland. More than 20 million cattle now have no food.

In some regions, the snow level has reached as high as 50-100 cm, and the temperature has dropped to minus 41.8 degrees centigrade.
