China to Further Enhance Water Traffic Safety

China's Ministry of Communications on Tuesday said that it will continue to devote this year to water traffic safety promotion work.

"This year will continue to be designated as a year of water traffic safety, just like last year," a circular released by the ministry said.

The circular asked traffic control authorities at all levels to straighten out traffic order, to put all shipping companies in better shape and to dredge waterways so as to guarantee the safety of water traffic.

It also asked for improvements in the traffic safety guarantee system and invited supervision and public tip-offs from the whole society.

According to the ministry source, a leading group in charge of water traffic related issues has been set up, headed by communications minister Huang Zhendong.
