Water System Control on Upper Reaches of the Yangtze Kicked Off

Water system and river course control has got underway now in cities and towns of Sichuan Province. Among those cities, Deyang has set an example by introducing its experience on a unified handling of "dikes, roads and forests" in the construction of farmland water-control projects. In order to ensure the project quality it has set up a professional team for construction with its field-work mechanized. Up till now, they have completed the construction of a dike cemented with pebbles that extends over hundred kilometers, and a dyke of hundred kilometers long with a road surface wide as eight meters and a green belt of over 25 thousand Mu as well. In addition, an area of 2,200 square km. suffering from soil erosion and water loss has been brought under control. The picture here shows a construction team renovating the dike.

Foreign Managers of Haier Gathered in Qingdao

Sandy-Land Watermelons Promise Rich Harvest

In the spring plowing season, some 200 mu (15 mu = one hectare) of watermelons planted in the sandy land of Jinghong Town, Dai Prefecture of Xishuangbanna, Yunan Province are expected to have a good harvest. Adjacent to the Lancang River, the town's people have in recent years exerted themselves in planting watermelons in the sandy land during low water season, which not only reduces the agricultural investment, but also increases economic returns.
