China Unicom Has 20 Million Mobile Phone Users

China Unicom, one of China's largest telecommunications operators, now has more than 20 million mobile phone users, with its market share increasing to 22 percent from 11.5 percent in 1999.

China Unicom began providing mobile telecom services since 1995 and since then it has been increasing investment in this area. So far, the company has built a GSM network covering 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, with network capacity reaching 30 million users.

The firm now offers new service items, such as mobile secretary and weather broadcasting.

According to a company blueprint, China Unicom will develop 16.3 million new users this year, while expanding its network capacity by 20 million.
