Safe Farm Produce Serve People's Appetites in Beijing

With the operation of nearly 100 authorized enterprises engaged in safe farm produce processing in Beijing, capital of China, it is expected that local residents should no longer need to worry about their food quality.

Beijing began to build the safety bases for edible agricultural products last year, in a bid to ensure a safe food supply market in the city.

The system supervises all farm food manufacturers on production and sales to make them abide by related laws and regulations, and it restricts the use of fertilizers and pesticides within the national standards.

Beijing promulgated a provisional rule in May last year to prohibit the using of forage additives with hormonal ingredients in animal breeding, and high-poison and persistent pesticides in crop and plant cultivation.

Production and sales of all virulent and persistent pesticides and illegal forage additives will be banned completely by the end of this May by the municipal government, in a move to speed up the construction of the safe farm product bases, official sources indicated.
