100Bn Yuan Potential Lottery Predicted

Potential lottery in the coming nine or so years may top over 84.6 billion yuan, according to an estimate by the Development Research Center under the State Council.

When a per-capita average of 80 yuan of lottery tickets should be bought, China's lottery market would at least be up to 100 billion yuan. But against these is merely a sum of 16 billion yuan worth of lottery having been issued at present, pointing to China's vast lottery market far from being tapped, said insiders after analysis.

Compared with many other lottery-issuing countries in the world, China takes the 12th place by its lottery issuance. Due to its large population size, a per-capita lottery amount of six yuan per annum has been purchased, dropping it to the 97th place. Statistics show that only six percent of the Chinese population ever dabbles in lottery buying instead of 85% in the US, 64% in France and 70% in Japan.

China will issue 30 billion yuan of lottery tickets this year, one-fold increase over last year and this is even far from meeting market demand.
