Magnitude 4.2 Quake Shakes Shikinejima Today

An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 4.2 rocked Shikinejima Island in the Izu island chain south of Tokyo early Tuesday, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.

The quake, which struck at 1:19 a.m., registered lower 5 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7 on Shikinejima and 3 on Niijima Island, the agency said.
