China's First On-line Purchasing Service Website Opens

The first website on the Chinese mainland providing all-round on-line purchasing services for enterprises opened here recently.

The website, Chinalliances.com, will provide services like on- line purchasing, on-line bidding and auctions.

Zhu Wei, president of the website, said that enterprises in China are faced with growing demand for business-to-business on- line purchasing now that many State-owned enterprises are undergoing restructuring and China is about to enter the World Trade Organization.

Zhu believes that electronic business has great potential in China.

It is learnt that the Shanghai-based website, co-sponsored by State departments like the State Economic and Trade Commission and venture capital companies, will enable enterprises to attain information exchange timely and reach satisfactory bargains.

Since trial operation began in 2000, the website has already attracted a number of large and medium-sized clients, including one with an annual purchase volume reaching 300 million yuan. Already, these clients have purchased 30 billion yuan of goods through the website.
