India, Czech Seek to Sign Defense Cooperation Agreement
India and the Czech Republic are in the process of signing a defense cooperation agreement, visiting Czech Defense Minister Vladimir Vetchy said Monday in New Delhi.
The Czech Republic on Monday offered to India joint research, production and marketing of a series of defense-related equipment, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported following lengthy talks between Vetchy and his Indian counterpart George Fernandes.
It has also offered to India the sale of Snezka Los artillery fire finding Radar as well as broad-basing agreement for training of Indian armed forces personnel on protection against weapons of mass destruction.
Heading a high-level defense and armament companies delegation here, Vetchy said the two countries would widen the scope of existing arrangement on training of armed personnel in chemical, biological and nuclear warfare scenario.
Besides, his country was very keen to bolster cooperation with New Delhi, especially in upgrading the Soviet weaponry including T- 72 tanks, armored carriers and in setting up passive surveillance and intelligence gathering systems, Vetchy added.
While saying that India should sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, Vetchy said Czech armament companies would not insist on it while going for cooperation agreement with Indian companies, the PTI reported.
