NASDAQ Liaison Office Inaugurated In South India City

The NASDAQ Stock Market on Monday inaugurated its India liaison office in Bangalore, a booming hi-tech city in south India known as the "Indian Silicon Valley", the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

Through the establishment of the liaison office, NASDAQ is opening a "window" for Indian companies to access global funds, the PTI quoted NASDAQ Vice Chairman Alfred R Berkeley as saying in Bangalore.

Berkeley and Chief Minister of India's Karnataka state, where Bangalore is located, S M Krishna jointly inaugurated the office, the PTI noted.

NASDAQ office in India would provide service to existing companies, including Infosys and Satyam Infoway, and assist other companies looking to list on NASDAQ, Berkeley told the PTI.

NASDAQ, which traded over 20 trillion U.S. dollars in value of shares during 2000, is a subsidiary of the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc, (NASD), the largest securities industry in the United States.

Berkeley also told the Indian press that Indian companies need to make "extra efforts" to get known to the US institutional investors and there was a "wonderful opportunity" for them to come to the US.
