East China City to Plant 18,000 More Trees This Year

Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, plans to plant 18,000 trees this year to make the city greener.

The planting includes 13,500 sidewalk trees and 4,200 trees in squares, parks and greenbelts, according to the bureau of parks and woods of the city.

All the seedlings are to be supplied by the city's nurseries, and it is forbidden to transplant ancient and rare trees from a place to another, the bureau said.

To insure the viability of trees, the city has opened a training course for staff and set up a supervisory company to oversee the project.

Hundreds of citizens will be invited to plant ornamental trees like willows, peach trees and Chinese flowering crabapples in local scenic sites, the bureau said.
