Commodities Meet demand of First Tibetan New Year in New Century

The 21st century's first Tibetan New Year falls on February 24 this year and the Tibet Autonomous Region has prepared sufficient commodities to meet market demand since the beginning of the month. There are almost all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables available at markets along with abundant supplies of fresh aquatic products in Lhasa, where residents have said good-bye to the days of only a few kinds of vegetables in winter. Every day, many of these items are being sent to other parts in Tibet.

Tibetan farmers and herdsmen have prepared sufficient local pasture products such as milk products, beef, mutton and ghee, major Tibetan foodstuffs for holiday celebrations.

Many modern department stores have been set up in this capital of Tibet in recent years. A lot of daily commodities as well as food and drink products are available in the stores for local residents and Tibetan farmers from other parts of the region.

Some of the commodities were trucked in the city from other provinces one month ago. Most of the commodities' prices are the same as inland areas.

To celebrate the first Tibetan New Year in the new century, officials with party, government and military departments are hosting tea parties, art performances or visits to convey holiday greetings to Tibetan residents, farmers, especially people in disaster-hit areas.
