Czech President Cuts Short Kuwaiti Visit for Health Reason

Czech President Vaclav Havel left here Monday after cutting short his three-day visit to Kuwait due to sudden indisposition.

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah visited Havel at the state guest house, Bayan Palace, before his departure, and wished him speedy recovery, the official Kuwait News Agency reported.

Havel arrived here Sunday on the second leg of his three-nation Gulf tour, which has taken him to Saudi Arabia. He had originally planned to visit the United Arab Emirates after Kuwait.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, and First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah held separate talks with Havel on Sunday.

But a press conference planned to be held by the Czech president Monday morning was cancelled, said a press release by Kuwait's Information Ministry.

Havel's itinerary in Kuwait also included a visit to the National Committee for the Missing and POW's Affairs, where he was due to deliver a speech.

At a press conference held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, the Czech president asserted his country's keenness on supporting the security and stability of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

He said that his visit was also aimed at boosting cooperation in various fields, especially in the economic aspects with Gulf states.
