New Top Legislator Elected in Beijing
Yu Junbo was elected new chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress at the fourth session of the 11th Municipal People's Congress, which closed Saturday.
The meeting accepted the resignation of the former chairman, Zhang Jianmin, who turns 70 this year.
Born in February 1941, Yu Junbo is also vice secretary of the Beijing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China. The former college-graduated engineer started his political career as a county magistrate in Liaoning Province in northeast China.
