Huge Funds Go from East to West China in Infrastructure Development

The Shandong Luneng Group, a powerful energy development company in east China's Shandong Province, will pool together some 3 billion yuan to undertake an infrastructure project in an economic and technological development zone of Yibin City, Sichuan Province in southwest China, according to an agreement signed in Chengdu Sunday.

As one of the largest projects signed in response to the country's strategic development of the vast and underdeveloped western region, the Luneng project will help lay a foundation of water, power, gas, road and telecommunication systems in an area of 650 hectares of the development zone.

The Luneng Group will invest another 200 million yuan to build 20 CNG gas stations in Chengdu, the provincial capital, to improve the use of environment-friendly energy.

Funds from China's more developed coastal region are expected to play a big role in making the most of the natural resources in the western region.
