Minorities Occupy More Government Positions in China's Fujian

Some 12.3 percent more minority ethnic group members are now working at various government departments in South China's Fujian province than six years ago, an official source said Sunday.

By the end of last year, the source said, there were more than 8,700 government officials from various minority ethnic groups, some 1,000 more than the figure in 1994.

As a coastal and better developed province, Fujian is home to 54 minority ethnic groups, with a total minority population of 540, 000.

According to the source, Fujian has long paid great attention to helping children from minority ethnic groups to get better schooling and to training as many minority officials as possible.
