Rotavirus Bacterin Developed in China
China has become the second country in the world to have rotavirus bacterin following the United States.

The oral rotavirus bacterin developed by the Biological Research Institute of Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu Province, has been widely used across China, sources said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) encourages all countries worldwide to list the rotavirus bacterin into their respective nation's immunity program on children to prevent diarrhea caused by the virus.

The rotavirus was first found by an Australian scientist in the 1970s. The virus, which looks like wheels, causes diarrhea for babies and is spread mainly through dejecta-mouth transmission, according to experts.

Statistics show that about 900,000 infants die of rotavirus- caused diarrhea in the world every year.

The protective ratio of the live vaccine produced by Chinese scientists is more than 90 percent of diarrhea caused by serious rotavirus, according experts.
