Zhejiang Has More Taiwanese-funded EnterprisesEast China's Zhejiang Province has become a major investment destination for Taiwanese businessmen in recent years. In 2000, a total of 299 Taiwanese firms invested in the province, bringing a total capital of US$320 million in contractual terms. Zhejiang actually used US$150 million of Taiwanese investment last year, up 72.6 percent over the previous year, according to the provincial foreign economic and trade bureau. The province had approved 3,137 Taiwanese-funded enterprises by the end of last year, involving an investment of US$2.44 billion in contractual terms and US$910 million in real terms. Contracted Taiwanese investment to Zhejiang ranks third following Hong Kong and the United States, the source said. Consummate traffic facilities, good telecommunications services and preferential policies were the major factors effecting the increasing Taiwanese investment. Wang Yongming, vice-governor of Zhejiang, said that his province will continue its efforts to provide a sound investment environment for all overseas investors, including those from Taiwan.
