Natural Gas to Benefit Energy-Short Ningbo

Natural gas from Chunxiao Oil and Gas Field on the East China Sea, some 300 kilometers to the east of Ningbo in eastern Zhejiang Province will hopefully be introduced into the city in 2001, it was learnt recently.

The oil and gas field has natural gas reserves of 40 to 45 billion square meters and annual production can reach 3.94 billion square meters.

In time, the project, which cost 720 million yuan, will bring natural gas to about 190,000 households in three districts of the city in the first phase.

Ningbo is short of energy resources and 98 percent of its energy is imported from other regions of the country.

Besides, the rapid growth in the local economy has raised higher demands for more energy.

Coal consumption, which still dominates energy consumption in Ningbo, has become the main cause of pollution in the city.
