Compaq Records Noted Profit GrowthGlobal computer giant Compaq announced Saturday in Hong Kong that its revenue for the year 2000 totaled US$42.4 billion, an increase of 10 percent over the previous year with operating profit up 80 percent.Among the geographic regions, Compaq's Greater China Division also recorded remarkable achievements. Revenues for the Enterprise Business Group grew by 13 percent and operating profit 60 percent. Revenues for the Commercial PC Group and the Consumer Group increased by 17 percent and 27 percent respectively. As illustrated in its over 50 percent revenue growth from enterprise business and services worldwide, Compaq is poised to shift from a PC manufacturer to a global provider of technology and solutions for all industries. "As we expect slow growth in the consumer and PC market in the United States in the first half of 2001, the strength of our enterprise business will be the driver of profitability in our global business, judging from the demand in all international markets, particularly in Greater China," said Larry Fox, vice president and general manager of Enterprise Business Group of Compaq Greater China Division, at a press briefing Saturday. "Hence, Compaq Greater China Division will continue to focus on high growth areas such as servers, storage products and services and handheld devices, as we envision tremendous opportunities in m- commerce (mobile commerce) activities in the region," he added. |
