Chinese Premier Greets New Thai Prime Minister

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Friday sent a message of congratulation to his Thai counterpart, Thaksin Shinawatra, on the occasion of the latter's assumption of office.

In the message, Zhu expressed his "warm congratulation" to the new Thai Prime Minister and wished the Kingdom of Thailand prosperity and the Thai people happiness.

Sino-Thai friendship has been strengthened and the cooperation in all fields has been deepened in recent years through the effort of the two governments and peoples, said Zhu in the message.

"The friendly relations between China and Thailand are in keeping with the two peoples' interests and redound to regional peace, stability and prosperity," he said.

Zhu also expressed his belief that the Sino-Thai cooperative relationship and mutual trust in all areas will be promoted in Thaksin's term.

Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai (Thais Love Thais) Party, winning a victory in the general election on January 6 by capturing 248 seats, has formed a ruling coalition with Chart Thai Party and New Aspiration Party with combined 325 seats in the 500-member parliament.
