Vietnam Pays Great Attention to China's Experience: Party Leader

Vietnam pays great attention to China's experience in the reform and opening-up drive, said General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) Le Kha Phieu.

Phieu made the remarks here on Friday afternoon in meeting with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian.

During the meeting, Phieu expressed his appreciation for the great achievements gained in China's reform and opening-up drive.

He also highly evaluated the fruitful cooperation between China and Vietnam in the political, economic, cultural and military fields, and expressed his confidence that the friendly cooperation between the two countries and the two armies will be developed in the new century.

Chi, also vice chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that China attached great importance to the development of the relations with the Vietnamese Party, Government and Army.

The Chinese Defense Minister reaffirmed that China would actively implement the consensus on the development of relations between the two countries and two armies reached by the leaders of the two countries in the military field, and strive to turn the common border of the two countries into a peaceful, stable and friendly border line.

Chi also wished the Ninth National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam a great success.

He arrived here on Thursday for a six-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Defense Minister Pham Van Tra.

Before coming to Vietnam, Chi had visited Laos. Vietnam is the second leg of Chi's four-nation Asia tour, which also includes Cambodia and Nepal.
