WTO Starts to Negotiate on Yugoslavia's Accession

The General Council of the World Trade Organization (WTO) has decided to establish a working party to negotiate the terms for Yugoslavia's entry.

WTO Director-General Mike Moore Thursday described the decision as a "very strong signal of the importance of trade in bringing peace and stability to troubled regions of the world."

He said membership in the WTO would help Yugoslavia re- integrate into the global community.

He urged the working party to complete its work as quickly as possible, adding that a united Europe will bring about better life for the people in the region.
