Vietnam Strives to Further Develop Military Cooperation with China: Defense MinisterVietnam would strive to continue implement the consensus reached by leaders of the countries, further developing the cooperation between the two countries in the military field, Vietnamese Defense Minister Pham Van Tra said Thursday in Hanoi.During his talks with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian, Tra said that the relations between the two countries and two armies are smoothly developing. He said that Vietnam, as a China's friendly neighbor country, heartily rejoice at the Chinese People's universally acknowledged achievements of the reforms and opening-up cause. The Vietnamese defense minister also expressed his warm welcome to Chi's visit to Vietnam, saying that Chi's visit to Vietnam will have important significance for the development of the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries and two armies. Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said that the traditional friendship between the two countries has been rapidly developed in all fields in recent years. Especially, Party leaders of the two countries, from the high plane of the strategy and overall situation of the two countries' friendship, have defined the guidance for Sino-Vietnamese relations in the new century as "long- term stable, future-oriented, good-neighborly and all-round cooperation." Chi said that further strengthening the cooperation between the two armies will actively contribute to the all-round development of the two countries' relationship. Chi, also vice chairmen of China's Central Military Commission and a state councilor, arrived here Thursday noon for a six-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Van Tra. Before coming to Vietnam, Chi had already visited Laos. Vietnam is the second leg of Chi's four-nation Asian tour, which also includes Cambodia and Nepal. |
