China Starts Anti-Dumping Investigation Against Polystyrene

China will start an anti-dumping investigation against polystyrene imported from Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Thailand.

This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) early on Friday and became effective on the same day.

The investigation involves imported polystyrene listed under " 3903.1900 - Miscellaneous" in the tariff of the General Administration of Customs.

Starting from Friday, MOFTEC and the Chinese Customs will launch an investigation into the case in line with China's rules on anti-dumping. In the meantime, the State Economic and Trade Commission and other authorities of the State Council will investigate any damage done to China's industries from the dumping.

The investigation is expected to end within one year, but may be extended to 18 months under special circumstances.

Polystyrene is used to make telecommunications equipment, frequency conversion electrical appliances, optical equipment, plastic for daily-use items and packaging material.
