Post & Telecommunication Exchanges Become More Frequent Across Taiwan Straits

The cross-Straits post and telecommunication contacts among the people have become more frequent recently. According to the statistics from Taiwan, the average number of cross-Straits telephone calls showed a continuous rising trend, reaching 550,000 times a day, accounting for 30 percent of all outgoing telephone calls from Taiwan, and the average number of cross-Straits mails told 38,000 pieces a day. During the period of January-August 2000, there were altogether 130 million-time cross-Straits calls with a total calling time of 370 million minutes, averaging 1.54 million minutes a day.
