Zhejiang Province to Become China's Information Industrial Power

East China's Zhejiang Province plans to become a major information province in China within five years, according to Provincial Governor Cai Songyue.

Cai said that Zhejiang would also turn itself into an important software development center, a software export center and an information professional training center.

The province also aims to be among the most advanced in China in terms of information technological standards and in resource utilization efficiency.

By the end of 2005, Zhejiang Province will have doubled the output value of its information product manufacturing industry from the figure of 2000 to 260 billion yuan (about US$31 billion). Its software industry and information service industry will increase at an average annual rate of 40 percent.

The sale revenues of the two industries are projected to total 60 billion yuan (about US$7.1 billion) by the end of the 10th Five-Year plan period which will end in 2005.

Moreover, the ratio of the added value of the information industry to Zhejiang's GDP will rise from 5.5 percent at the end of the 9th Five-Year plan period to nine percent.

Zhejiang, a well-developed province in the coastal area, will speed up the growth of its information industry, with emphasis placed on the development of software products, electronic products, telecommunication manufacturing industry, digital household electronic appliances and the network terminal product manufacturing.

It will also energetically develop its microelectronic industry, the new components and device industry, and the information servicing industry.
