A resolution was made at the Forth Session of the Beijing Committee of the Ninth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which was closed on February 6 in Beijing, to support Beijing's 2008 Olympic bid.

The resolution says that all political parties, groups, and commissaries present at the meeting fully support Beijing's 2008 Olympic bid. Commissaries of all circles hold that the Olympiad is a splendid sports-meet of the largest scale and highest level in the world. It has won the respects of all peoples round the world for in past 100 years it has, purporting to "solidarity, friendship, and progress", contributed a lot to the development of sports activities, safeguarding the world peace and promoting the economic development and social progress.

As the capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing has a deep understanding of and an indefatigable aspiration after the Olympic spirit and the Olympic Games. Beijing has seen a rapid growth in economy and social progress since the implementation of reform and opening up. Therefore, Beijing has the confidence, facility and capability to host a successful Olympiad in the year of 2008. To host the 2008 Olympics in China, the world largest developing country of a long cultural history, will exert a great significance in spreading the Olympic spirit in the world and enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and the peoples of the whole world.

To bid for hosting the Olympic Games in Beijing is also a good opportunity for promoting Beijing's reform, openness and modernization drive. The Beijing Committee of the CPPCC should bring its advantage into full play, calling on all political parties, groups, and the people to take an active part in Beijing's 2008 Olympic bid with might and main. In the meanwhile, Beijing's citizens are asked to dedicate themselves to the building of a new Beijing and making the 2008 Olympic Games an everlasting legacy in line with the wishes of the Chinese government and President Jiang Zemin.
