Chinese Top Legislator Greets Thai Speaker on His ElectionChina's top legislator Li Peng has sent a congratulatory message to Uthai Pimchaichon over his election as chief of Thailand's National Assembly and speaker of the House of Representatives.The exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and Thailand have been strengthened in recent years, said Li in the message dated Tuesday. In particular, the exchanges and cooperation between the two parliaments have played an important role in promoting understanding and friendship between the two peoples as well as in pushing forward bilateral relations, said Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). The NPC is willing to further develop cooperation with the Thai parliament in the new century, he said. Uthai, a veteran politician from Thailand's Thai Rak Thai Party was elected with overwhelming support as speaker of the newly- formed House of Representatives during the first house session Monday.
