New Wharf Operational in Tianjin

A 100,000-ton bulk cargo wharf was put into operation recently following the successful four- month trial run in this key port city of north China.

Located within the Tianjin Port, the wharf has a coastline of 403 meters and water depth of 16.5 meters.

The wharf, with a designed annual throughput of 6 million tons, is able to handle 150,000-ton bulk cargo ships at full capacity.

The wharf was put into trial operation in October last year following renovations. It has accommodated 46 large vessels and handled 1.78 million tons of goods so far, with its performance efficiency rising by 30 percent.

Another wharf in Tianjin port, which is able to handle the fifth and sixth generation container ships, has also underwent a test run.

Tianjin Port plans to finish rebuilding two more container wharves and a 100,000-ton oil wharf by the end of this year to boost the port's handling capacity to over 100 million tons.

The top five largest container ports in the Chinese mainland are Shanghai, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Tianjin and Guangzhou.

Shanghai Port, the third largest in the world, recorded an annual throughput of more than 200 million tons last year, latest statistics show.
