Websites Adopt New Program for On-line AdvertisingAbout 20 major Chinese websites have recently adopted a new program developed by a US Internet firm to improve the efficiency of on-line advertising. The program, offered by New York-based DoubleClick Inc., one of the largest Internet advertising firms, is able to help advertisers release personalized commercials, which are selected according to the various need of individual on-line users. Li Jinghui, chief executive officer of the famous netease.com, which has also applied the program, said that on-line commercials are now receiving more and more attention with vigorous development of the Internet. However, it's still necessary for websites to operate with advanced technology and scientific management if they really want to see profits. Internet advertising in China achieved about US$9.5 million of revenue in 1999, still a fraction compared with traditional advertising, even though experts predict that the figure will hit 240 million U.S. dollars by 2004. Sources said that Internet-based advertising across the world will gain 28 billion U.S. dollars in revenue by 2005, accounting for six percent of the total world advertising income.
