Lao PM Meets Chinese Defense Minister

Lao Prime Minister Sisavath Keobounphanh met with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian on Wednesday.

At the meeting, Sisavath spoke highly of Chi's visit, saying it will give fresh impetus to the development of relations between Laos and China.

He also reaffirmed Laos' one China policy, stressing that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.

Chi told Sisavath that China has always supported the Lao government in its efforts to modernize its military and maintain state security and social stability.

Chi, also vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission and a state councilor, arrived in Vientiane on Monday for a four-day official good-will visit.

Laos is the first leg of Chi's four-nation Asian tour, which also takes in Vietnam, Cambodia and Nepal.
