Guangdong, Macao SAR Strengthen Cooperation

Lu Ruihua, visiting governor of Guangdong province in south China, said Wednesday that a high-ranking contact mechanism has been established between Guangdong and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Officials from both sides had very friendly talks and achieved rather pleasing consensus, the governor told the media. Heading a Guangdong delegation, Lu came to Macao on Monday.

The priority of cooperation between Macao and Guangdong will be placed on strengthening economic ties between the SAR and the neighboring Zhuhai City, the governor said.

It has been agreed that Zhuhai and Macao will join hands in developing the Hengqin Island of Zhuhai. A golf course and an export-oriented manufacturing center are expected to be set up on that island.

To promote the exchange of goods, the closing time for cargo passage at the Zhuhai-Macao border will be extended from the current 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the governor said, adding that the decision has to be approved by the State Council.

To make contacts more convenient, government vehicles commuting between the two places will be better recognized, the overnor

said.
