China to Form Six Film Groups

China will team up six film groups in the new century and the plan will be mapped out in March 2001 when the National Film Work Forum is held, inside sources say.

All-round reforms on the film industry will be pushed forward, focused on the establishment of "groups" in the sector. In the coming years, six film groups will be formed respectively based in five big cities and one province, namely, Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun, Xi'an, and Chengdu and Guangdong Province.

As reported, the six prospective film groups include three old film bases in Beijing, Shanghai, and Changchun as well as another three film groups to be built in Xi'an and Chengdu and Guangdong Province. The three new film groups will integrate resources of current Zhujiang, Xi'an, and Emei film studios with other film producers in their neighboring areas.

News reports say that the current main task for these film groups is to work in close cooperation with TV stations, share their resources and smooth the exchanges with the TV industry.
