Shaanxi Builds High-Tech Development Belt

A new and high-tech development belt has been built in central Shaanxi Province in the northwest, marking the end of a 10-year project.

The area is home to five high-tech development zones and 10 industrial parks in Xi'an, the provincial capital, Baoji, Xianyang and Yangling cities.

More than 90,000 scientists and research fellows are working in these development zones and industrial parks. Their goal is to develop thousands of new products in the fields of electronic information, new materials, bio-engineering and aviation that will yield billions of yuan annually.

The Xi'an new and high-tech development zone maintained a growth rate of 36 percent for seven consecutive years. A total of 928 scientific and technological enterprises registered in the zone last year, up 75 percent over the previous year.

The zone generated 27 billion yuan in industrial, commercial and technological revenue, one-third more than the figure a year ago.
