Kenyan President to Meet World Financial Heads

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi will hold face to face talks with the heads of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, later this month.

World Bank President James Wolfensohn and IMF Managing Director Horst Kohler are scheduled to jointly visit Dar es Salaam from February 22 to 25 for talks with the heads of state in east and southern Africa, the East African weekly reported on Monday.

Richard Uku, spokesman of the World Bank's sub-Saharan Africa region, said that the two heads of the world financial institutions will seek suggestions from African leaders on how their agencies can contribute more effectively to poverty reduction and good governance efforts.

Wolfensohn and Kohler will take advantage of the opportunity to hold discussions with President Moi on their frosty relations with Kenya.

The relations between Kenya and the two international financial institution have been reportedly strained in recent months over several disputed bills aimed at combating corruption or controlling banks' interest rates.
