China to Take Part in Winter Universiade

China will send a 51-member contingent for the 20th World Winter University Games, which will be hosted by Poland from February 7 to 17.

Zhu Chenyi, chief-de-mission of the Chinese sports delegation, told a press conference Monday that Chinese athletes will compete in three sports of short track speed stating, combined skiimg and figure skating, expecting to take home medals of some hue.

Zhu Chenyi, a veteran winter sports official, admitted that China puts its gold medal hope on short track speed skating, with men's skater Guo Wei the most promising one.

At the World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships, Guo Wei was crowned in 500m and finished runner-up in the overall standings.

"Our aim is to accumulate international competition experience at the Winter Universiade this year so as to make a splash at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics next year." Said Li Furong, deputy director of State General Administration Bureau.
