Chinese FM Spokesman on Verdict of Lockerbie Case

China hopes the verdict on the Lockerbie air disaster will be helpful in the final settlement of the case in a proper way, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said Thursday.

"We also hope the international community could make further efforts to completely lift sanctions on Libya, so that regional peace and stability could be achieved," Zhu said.

Zhu made the remarks in response to a reporter's question on China's comments on the recent verdict handed down by the Scottish court on this case.

He said China has noticed the verdict on this case which happened more than a decade ago.

The spokesman pointed out the case led to the sanctions of Libya, causing great loss and bitterness to the Libyan people and relatives of the victims.
