China's Annual Overseas Investment Exceeds US$600mn
Foreign trade officials said Thursday that China's annual overseas investment in 2000 surpassed US$600 million.
According to the latest figures provided by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, 320 Chinese-funded enterprises were registered overseas in 2000. Of the total US$805 million of investment through signed agreements, that from the Chinese side added up to US$622 million.
Projects with Chinese investment exceeding US$1 million reached 87, all approved by the Chinese government.
Up to the end of 2000, Chinese-funded enterprises overseas totaled 6,296. While their total investment through signed agreements added up to US$11.2 billion, and investment from the Chinese side totaled US$7.6 billion.
Trade officials said the rapid growth of Chinese investment overseas has facilitated Chinese enterprises to compete in the international market and formed a basis for China to expand economic and technological cooperation with other countries.
